The House of Extra Measures
A transitional home providing a safe, supportive community for women in 12-step recovery.
Vision
That all recovering women are afforded the necessary time and peer support to develop independence and sustained abstinence without relapse.
The House Of Extra Measures was founded by Randy Jo Baker, LVN with 15 years in recovery, to fill the need for effectively structured communal living for newly recovering women. Director of the home, Randy Jo supports the statistics that women in early recovery benefit significantly from a peer-based atmosphere of family, accountability and structure.
Conveniently located in safe, historic Woodland Heights, close to downtown on the Metro bus line. Nearby are parks, jogging trails, tennis courts and numerous 12-step recovery meetings.
Of all individuals discharged from treatment, more than half will resume alcohol and/or drug use in the following 12 months, and 50% will be re-admitted to addiction treatment within two to five years (SAMHSA-OAS, 2007).
A continuum of care that includes a customized treatment regimen, addressing all aspects of an individual’s life…and follow-up options (e.g., community or family-based recovery support systems) can be crucial to a person’s success in achieving and maintaining a drug/alcohol-free life-style.
